Objective: Prepare a bootable operating system floppy and a bootable operating system field service CD-ROM, and provide documentation on the steps needed to format a hard-drive in preparation for the installation of an operating system.
Tasks:
1. Create a system startup disk off a computer with an existing OS installed. Obtain a blank floppy from your instructor. Search the vendor support website for instructions. Also document the steps needed to search for the insructions and create the startup disk in your write up. Tip : Article ID: Q186300.
2. Make a field-service CD-ROM of the OS master. Obtain a blank CD-ROM from your instructor. Check out the OS master from the multimedia room on the 4th floor of the main library. You will need about one half hour to burn this field service CD-ROM. Bring the blank CD-ROM you were issued in class with you to the library. See Help in the CD-burner software you are using for instructions. Document the steps in your write up.
3. Research the FDISK and FORMAT DOS command flags needed to low level format a hard-drive with a single primary DOS partition. Document your findings in your write up.
