PC Inventory & Upgrade

 

 

Objectives: (1) Inventory the hardware and software capabilities of an assigned desktop PC; (2) Make specific recommendations for upgrades; (3) Enhance the functionality of the unit with available software and hardware: for example: enable the cd-rom, fdisk/format or defrag the hard-drives, configure the network adapter for network service, install an updated OS or internet browser, install a network printer.

 

Project Dependencies: Hardware will be provided in Combs-107.

 

 

Tasks:

 

1. Document the type, manufacturer, serial and model number of your assigned PC and monitor.

 

2.  Inventory the current hardware and software functionality of the PC. Be specific as to the BIOS version, memory size and type, hard-disk vendor and size, number and availabiility of PCI and EISA slots, USB ports, CPU type and manufacturer, nature and vendor of any adapters (network card, sound card, video card, SCSI controller), version and patch grade of any operating systems, and installed software..

 

3. Based on your inventory, make specific recommendations for upgrading the unit. Include pricing information and provide a source for the quote. Present your findings and recommendations in a table format.

 

4. Perform an upgrade of the unit after reviewing your initial findings with your instructor.

 

5. Document your work with screenshots and/or digital photographs.
